We’re often asked what ‘the best’ this or that gadget. Because of the amount of innovation and development happening now, it often becomes challenging to answer this without copious research. Within the last year, that has gotten easier thanks to two websites. The Wirecutter was started last year by Brian Lam, who worked at Gizmodo, WIRED Magazine and Maximum PC. It is like the Consumer Reports for this generation.
Because of his contacts and industry knowledge, Brian has narrowed the review process down and is able to focus on what matters: features and value. He works to find the best value for nearly every electronics gadget you can think of. It takes a lot of research and testing but I’ve seen firsthand the benefit of sites like this. Last year, I was in the market for a bluetooth speaker and I’ve found their recommendation fo the UE Mobile Boom) to be really great. I wanted something smaller and more portable than the Jawbone Jambox, and it was only $100 too.
This is a great site for members who are wondering about what laptop they should get next or if they in turn recieve a question from a buyer or seller about tech tools. It allows you to have a few frequently asked for items at the ready for anyone who may be in the market. This could help you on your path to becoming the tech resource for your office or colleagues.
The Sweethome is laid out exactly the same only it lists the best in home categories. Appliances, utensils, cleaning, nursery – it really has it all. The beauty of a site like this for members is that they can keep up on the latest home trends and also have a recommendation or two for the buyer.
As housewares and technology evolve, these sites update as well. In the pic above for the humidifier, on 2/17, it had a watermark indicating that it was under review because of a competing model. There was an update this morning saying that it was still their choice. For my speaker, they had an update a few days ago. Still going strong, by the way.
So, if you’re looking for a place to find out what the new cool tech tools are or what appliances are the best value, here are two good options for you. Do you have any sites you think are just as good or better? Let us know.
