  1. Investing in solar panels can save you some big money, but they aren’t cheap. How do you know if installing them will be worth the expense? Google’s Project Sunroof can tell homeowners how much solar power their roof can generate and how much they could expect to save by installing them.
  2. You’ve been able to wake up Microsoft’s XBox by saying “Xbox on” for some time now, and soon your Windows PC will come to life when you utter “Cortana, wake up.” It might not sound like much, but any support for voice-activated user interfaces is a step in the right direction.
  3. Manage your Windows 10 settings in one place (instead of bouncing back and forth between the Settings Menu and the Control Panel) by setting up “Godmode.” Easy-to-follow instructions are here.
  4. Bad photographers rejoice: researchers at Google and MIT are working on a way to remove obstructions from photographs. It’s pretty awesome.
  5. What’s the most secure way to communicate? You don’t need crazy James Bond goodies. According to Wired, all you need is WiFi, an iPod touch, and a good encryption app.
