Cables? Google Fiber Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Cables. Plus Four More Cool Things in Five For Wednesday.


  1. Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas are thought to be some of the cities where Google Fiber will eschew physical cables, instead beaming the service wirelessly.
  2. Think Apple’s Facetime can be a little wonky? So does Google, whose 1-to-1 video calling app Duo is rolling out as I type this.
  3. Tech site The Verge likes the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7. They really like it, like “Samsung’s best phone ever” like it.
  4. Renewable energy is about to get a big boost in the US. Our first offshore wind farm, located off the coast of Rhode Island, is almost complete.
  5. A new wearable called the Moment uses nothing but haptic feedback (vibrations, etc) to convey information. Other wearables use haptics, but this takes it to another level.
