Google Gets Serious About Hardware (and Hardware and Hardware and…), Plus Four More Items in Five for Wednesday


  1. With the announcement of 5 new products, Google is (finally) getting serious about hardware.
  2. Facebook is rolling out “Secret Conversations” to their Messenger service; you and someone else who has opted into using it can now have device-to-device encrypted chats.
  3. Those who said 2016 will be the breakout year for VR are looking pretty wise these days. Here’s a review of Sony’s entry into the field, on sale next week.
  4. Of course, it’s also the year of the self-driving car. Google’s autonomous car just surpassed 2 million miles. That’s a lot of miles, and a lot of knowledge meant to make things safe.
  5. Lastly, today marks the 5-year anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death. Watch some great video of him here.
